I am a radio station engineer. That means I get to do just about everything. As my boss says "The only reason we don't work on submarines is because we don't have one." I do love my job though. Almost every day I get to do something that makes me think. From heavy duty electronics involving ridiculously high voltages and currents to replacing plumbing in the bathrooms, no two days are alike. I also get to do fun things like going to remotes with the crazy radio jocks. We, the stations I mean, have a couple of morning teams that pride themselves on being nuts and out on a remote is just the place prove it.
When I am not working I spend a lot of time volunteering at my American Legion post. I do a lot of cooking there. On Sundays I serve a breakfast from 9:00 to 11:30 that includes a buffet of potatoes, scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, bacon, biscuits and fruit plus I make eggs to order, pancakes, breakfast burritos, waffles, omelets and egg-a-muffins. I generally serve 50 to 60 breakfasts a Sunday. I also cook at most of the post functions like steak fries and seafood feasts and outdoor cookouts.
My favorite cooking show is Iron Chef America followed closely by Good Eats.
I am 56 and have been cooking for about 12 years now. In that time I have gone from a water burner to a fair home cook, or at least that is what I am told. My wife gave over the kitchen to me a while back and says she is glad she did. I don't think she is just saying that so she doesn't have to make dinner every night, I think.
My style of cooking could be best described as American What's In The Fridge with French highlights. I make a lot of sauces and use quite a few spices. It has taken a long time to be able to smell a spice and be able to say to myself 'This smells like it should be able to go with that'. Most of the time now I am right, sometimes I am VERY wrong but I learn a lot with each failure and a little with each success.
